In 1879, Fort Coeur d’Alene was established near the site of the present city of Coeur d’Alene, ID. The garrison provided an impetus for the development of a town. In 1883, C. F. Yeaton purchased part of the townsite from the Northern Pacific Railroad, and Tony Tubbs staked off his homestead into town lots. The town was incorporated in 1887. C. F. Yeaton was one of the first white settlers in Spokane Falls. As a partner of James N. Glover, they established the first sawmill. The Yeaton Family only remained in Spokane from 1872 to 1876.
